At Johnson Elementary, each student has two 30-minute music instruction classes each week. Students learn to express themselves through performing music, creating and improvising music, studying music theory, and discussing the aesthetic evaluation of music.

Every first through fifth-grade student is involved in one music program, concert, or musical each year.  These music programs entail general classroom content, Colorado Academic Standards for Music, and student choice.

All third-grade students are given the district's written and performance music assessments in the fall and spring. Students in all grades are assessed through music participation, performance, melodic and rhythmic aural identification, expression, compositions, improvisations, and written work.

All fourth and fifth-grade students attend a Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra concert. They also attend a special concert performed by the Webber band, orchestra, and choir in preparation for their Middle School years' music choices.  Also, 4th or 5th-grade students can audition for the Poudre School District’s Honor Choir concert.

Husky Choir is open to all 4th and 5th-grade students. This choir begins in October with rehearsals on Wednesday afternoons each week after school and occasional additional rehearsals if needed. The choir performs in two concerts during the school year and sometimes at school events and assemblies. Last year we performed the Star Spangled Banner for a Rockies game at Coors Field!  In addition, we have led a Winter Caroling Event at Old Town Churn in Fort Collins along with holiday characters and delicious treats for the last two years.  We hope to continue those events and perform more in the community.
