Counseling

Johnson’s school counseling program is based on the American School Counselor Association’s (ASCA) guidelines. Our specials teachers work collaboratively to provide weekly lessons to all students based on the ASCA standards.  Because our specials teachers deliver classroom lessons each week, our school counselor's role is to oversee these lessons, provide small group supports, and individual student supports.  Our overall counseling program provides students support for their personal/social needs, career development, and academic planning and support. Additionally, the Johnson school counseling program focuses on comprehensive character education, violence prevention program, social development, emotional regulation, executive functioning development, and relationship building that is develelopmentally appropriate . Because we are strong proponents of service learning, our program incorporates student mentoring and student-led projects into classroom units.  Please see our scope and sequence and materials used at each grade level.
