Ann Durkin is the Gifted and Talented Coordinator at Johnson. She is also the Technology Teacher and Media Specialist.
During the 2024-2025 school year, students in third, fourth and fifth grades have the opportunity to be involved with the GT program. At times they might be working in literacy or math groups which might contain students who are not identified as GT, but have similar needs as identified students. During WIN time they are with other GT students.
3rd graders meet 4 times a week with other GT students to work on reading, writing, researching, and problem solving. They meet for math twice a week in a math enrichment group.
4th graders also meet 4 times a week other GT students to work on reading, writing, researching, and problem solving. They meet for math twice a week in a math enrichment group.
5th graders also meet 4 times a week other GT students to work on reading, writing, researching, and problem solving. They meet for math once a week in a math enrichment group.
Each identified GT student will also have the opportunity to set goals and work on projects with other GT students related to areas of interest to them. Students will begin to explore ideas for their Advanced Learning Plan in the fall each year.
Students also participate in a STEM challenge each year.
Other opportunities available to our GT students as well as all students include: Mighty Math Minds, Choir, Husky TV, Baton Enrichment, Running Club, and Student Council.
