treble clefAt Johnson Elementary, each student has two-30 minute classes of music instruction each week. Students learn to express themselves through Music, to create Music, the theory of Music, and the aesthetic evaluation of Music.

Every student, first through fifth grade, is involved in one major musical production each year. The fifth grade students perform in the fall program in November. Third and fourth grade students produce the winter program in December. First and second grade students perform in the spring program in the spring.

Presently, all third grade students are given the district's written and performance music assessments in the fall and in the spring. Fifth graders are assessed in the fall and the spring on a written assessment.

Students in third through fifth grades learn how to play a recorder and participate in Music Memory, which is a study of 10 famous composers and one of their major works. All fourth and fifth grade students attend a Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra concert. All fifth grade students also attend a special concert performed by the Webber band, orchestra and choir in preparation for their Middle School years' music choices.

Thunderbird Choir is open to all 4th and 5th grade students. This choir meets two mornings each week before school. The choir performs in two major productions during the school year, one in December and the other in the spring. The choir goes on tour and sings at the Senior Center each year.
